Zero Lubin have resurrected the tradition of souvenir
handkerchiefs. They embroider found handkerchiefs with poignant
messages, inspired by memories of places, cultural events,
significant historical characters and popular references from film
and television.
The significance of the simple handkerchief cannot be
underestimated throughout history. This basic hemmed piece of
fabric, carried in the pocket or purse, has a rich and intriguing
past, perhaps the least of which is wiping one's hands or face, or
blowing one's nose. Hankies are sweet, sexy and very romantic.
They are found in bride's purses, tucked into the bra straps of
good girls and bad ones, and are secreted away in the corners of
knicker drawers. Hankies give a sense of history the way paper
tissues never can; they exist as cultural items resonant with
meaning.
